John William Kane Jr., 76, of Hollidaysburg passed away on Friday. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late John William Sr. and Catherine (Mauk) Kane.

John is survived by his wife, Carole (Bowes) Kane; a son, Justin Baker (Kerry); a grandson, Jack Baker; and a brother, Chuck Kane (Lorri).

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Massar (Jack) and Sis Nagle (Jim); three brothers: Pete Kane, Tom Kane (Ann) and Billy Kane; and his grandson, Maverick “Mav” Baker.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy for six years. He was a Vietnam veteran and served on the USS Tripoli and the USS Midway.

He was a classic car enthusiast, collecting different cars over the years and was at one time the Vice President of the Kruisin Ko Car Club. He also collected firearms and was an avid hunter.

From 1986 until his retirement in 2006, John worked at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, at The Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022. Interment will be held at Alto Reste Park with full military honors by the Blair County Honor Guard.
